Friday 5/30/14 Ride

Fellow Riders,

  • The Friday forecast doesn’t look so good at this time, but now that the heat is on, every afternoon can show a threat of rain.  I won’t be available to ride this weekend but those wishing to ride should meet at the Key Mart parking area and select a destination and ride leader at that time.  Hope the weather is OK for a ride.  Ride safe.   Dan
Based on a recent Elvis siting, he may want to lead our group on Friday.
  • It was a warm South Carolina morning as a group gathered at Key Mart to determine a destination and leader.  Based on the uncertain wet forecast, it was decided to have lunch near home.  Puerto Nuevo, in West Union was the choice, and the route took us north to US64.  Jim (Honda) agreed to lead the group of 8 as we made our way up and down the mountain.  The riders other than Jim included Lesley, Joel, Denny and friend Rich (first time rider), me, Ed, and Bob.  The food and service at Puerto Nuevo was good as usual.  The route and destination turned out to be the right decision as showers did move in after 2 pm.  Overall, it was another great day on two wheels.   Steve  (ps, Elvis didn't show to lead the group - what a hound dog!)

Friday 5/23/14 Ride

Fellow Riders.

  • I think we are good for Friday as far as the weather goes, so I thought I would take a little ride up to the Flat Rock Wood Room, which is on NC225 almost to Hendersonville, NC.  If you would like to join me, let’s plan to leave the Key Mart parking area about 10:30 AM.  Hope to see you there.   Dan

  • I heard there were 9 that made the lunch in Flat Rock, NC.  Sounds like a good time that I missed, but I was enjoying the southwest.  Namely, Santa Fe.

Friday 5/16/14 Ride

Fellow Riders,

  • If the Friday forecast holds true, we should be OK for a ride.  I’m thinking I would like to ride on up to Dillard, GA and have some lunch at the Mountain Man BBQ.  If you would like to join me, let’s plan to leave the Key Mart parking area about 10:30 AM this Friday.  Hope you can get your bike started and join me.    Dan

  • What a gorgeous, slightly cool day to start a ride.  Eleven left Key Mart, joined by a twelfth, to head for Dillard on a sunny Friday morning.  The group behind Dan included Lesley, Jim (Road King), me, Russ, Jim (Wing), Paul and son Nick (first time riders), Ray (first time rider), Chuck (2nd time out), Joe, and Ed.  Dan, appropriately, decided to take us up the mountain to get to Mountain Man and it was quite the ride.  Thankfully, as we neared Highlands, there was a traffic back-up.  This allowed Dan to call an audible and we turned around and headed up Buck Creek Road.  Wow! What a spectacular ride through the less traveled mountains and valleys.  We came out west of Highlands and turned back to the east to make our way to Dillard.  That stretch of US64 is just an awesome road.  The water was up and all the views of rivers, rapids, and water falls that we could see were at their peak for viewers.  However, with all the twists and turns, the last three riders became separated and had their lunch in Highlands.  The rest of us were treated to some good BBQ at Mountain Man.  The downside of the ride was how nasty the weather got on the way home.  We found our bikes were wet when we left the restaurant, and it got worse after that.  There was enough rain that everyone decided to gas up later when things dried out.  Overall, it was still a great day on two wheels.   Steve
Don't be fooled by the blue skies.  Dark clouds were just around the next curve.
A wet finale to a fantastic ride!!!

Friday 5/9/14 Ride

Fellow Riders,

  • The weather forecast looks to be OK for Friday morning so I thought I would point my scooter towards Clayton, GA and terrorize the folks at the Universal Joint Restaurant.  I’m pretty sure most of us are past the terrorizing stage, but I know we can put up a challenge for any restaurant kitchen.  I will need some help, however, so if you would like to join me let’s plan to leave the Key Mart parking area about 10:30 AM this Friday.  Hope to see you there.   Dan
