- If the Friday forecast holds true, we should be OK for a ride. I’m thinking I would like to ride on up to Dillard, GA and have some lunch at the Mountain Man BBQ. If you would like to join me, let’s plan to leave the Key Mart parking area about 10:30 AM this Friday. Hope you can get your bike started and join me. Dan
- What a gorgeous, slightly cool day to start a ride. Eleven left Key Mart, joined by a twelfth, to head for Dillard on a sunny Friday morning. The group behind Dan included Lesley, Jim (Road King), me, Russ, Jim (Wing), Paul and son Nick (first time riders), Ray (first time rider), Chuck (2nd time out), Joe, and Ed. Dan, appropriately, decided to take us up the mountain to get to Mountain Man and it was quite the ride. Thankfully, as we neared Highlands, there was a traffic back-up. This allowed Dan to call an audible and we turned around and headed up Buck Creek Road. Wow! What a spectacular ride through the less traveled mountains and valleys. We came out west of Highlands and turned back to the east to make our way to Dillard. That stretch of US64 is just an awesome road. The water was up and all the views of rivers, rapids, and water falls that we could see were at their peak for viewers. However, with all the twists and turns, the last three riders became separated and had their lunch in Highlands. The rest of us were treated to some good BBQ at Mountain Man. The downside of the ride was how nasty the weather got on the way home. We found our bikes were wet when we left the restaurant, and it got worse after that. There was enough rain that everyone decided to gas up later when things dried out. Overall, it was still a great day on two wheels. Steve
Don't be fooled by the blue skies. Dark clouds were just around the next curve. |
A wet finale to a fantastic ride!!! |
