Friday 8/05/16 Ride

Fellow Riders,

  • Dan will be out of town this week, so I thought I would take a ride to The Village Bakery and Cafe in Pendleton for breakfast.  After looking at the weather.com crystal ball, it seems the rain may be coming earlier to the mountains this week so heading south may work out better.  Meet me at 8:30 am, at the Key Mart Parking area if you can make it.    Steve

  • The skies were gray and the air was heavy, but no immediate rain threat meant there were six riders to make a trip to Pendleton.  Those riding along with me included Len, Rob, Russ, Ed, and O.G. Bob.  As we were about to leave, Lesley drove up to wish us a good ride.  She said she just didn't have a minute to spare to go along.  Hopefully, she'll be able to join us on a ride in the near future.  The ride to Pendleton was on some back roads through Pickens and Anderson County and it was not long before we were there.  When we walked in, it was as if someone had called Sue to make arrangements like she always does.  A table for six was set up and waiting for us.  The server was friendly and got us coffee right away.  What we didn't know, was the kitchen was backed up and it took over 45 minutes to get our food.  When we got the food, as usual, it was great and very filling.  To make up for the slow service, our server brought us a tray of lemon and peach pastry "appetizers" and also did not charge us for our coffee.  No one likes to wait, but they did try to make it up to us.  With no sign of imminent rain, we took a route through the Clemson Experimental Forest and headed to Hwy 24.  I made one turn too early, and ended up on a road that would have eventually taken us across the water.  Since we were on bikes and not wave runners, Len (he has an internal GPS) baled me out and got me back on track.  The skies got a little dark a couple times, but no rain.  This helped make it another great day on two wheels.    Steve
A popular choice today by some unnamed riders.  Note - it does include fruit.
