Friday 06/01/18 Ride

Fellow Riders,

  • Normally we don’t start breakfast rides this early in the year but the extremely iffy weather lately, especially in the mountains, lends itself to getting done early because the afternoons have been very unpredictable weatherwise.  My plan is to start earlier, 8:30 am, and make my way to either Sunnyside or Mayberry’s of Clemson for some breakfast.  Then depending on the weather we can either ride some more or head home.  If you would like to join me, let’s plan to leave the Key Mart parking area about 8:30 AM on Friday morning.  Hope to see you there.    Dan

  • It was overcast, a little humid, and not too hot this morning when six riders ventured out for the first breakfast ride of the summer.  Joining Dan were me, Russ, Gary, Steve G., and Bob (Mr. Ducati) B.  The destination for breakfast had to be Mayberry's of Clemson since SunnySide Cafe has not yet opened.  They planned to be open in early spring, but it looks like they'll have to work fast to open by the first day of summer.  Mayberry's, in the former location of SunnySide, was a good choice for breakfast.  Dan had taken the group to the location in Brevard last year for lunch.  The place was not crowded and the chef/cook worked hard to get our food out, but it did take a little extra time for everyone to get their meal.  We'll have to remember that the customer is responsible for getting utensils and any necessary condiments when we eat here.  After a relaxing breakfast, Dan decided to meander through Pickens county for the ride home.  I mostly had no idea where we were, or which direction we were heading, but that is what riding is all about.  It was getting very sunny by the time we arrived home and it was definitely another great day on two wheels.    Steve

Friday 05/25/18 Ride

Fellow Riders,

  • Based on the current forecast for Friday, I think I'll hold off planning a ride for lunch.  If the various weather app forecasts get better, I'll send an email early Friday morning to say I plan to ride.  I hope we can get a ride in.    Steve
Is it going to rain or not???

  • Well, it did in fact rain, so there was no group ride today.  There's always hope for another dry Friday.    Steve

Friday 05/18/18 Ride

Fellow Riders,

  • Due to the possibility of thunderstorms and wet roads I am not planning a route for this Friday.  Should the forecast improve or you plan to ride regardless, plan to meet at the Key Mart parking area and select a destination and ride leader at that time.  Ride safe.    Dan
Of course, proper rain gear goes without saying, right?

Friday 05/11/18 Ride

Fellow Riders,

  • It seems like we went from a spring that couldn't really get going, to a spring that thinks it's summer already.  That means near 90 degree highs and the accompanying threat of an afternoon shower.  I think we can make a lunch ride to Rumor Hazit in Clayton and not get wet.  Like the weather forecasters, I've got a 50% chance of being right.  If you're up to accepting the slight risk, we can meet at Key Mart and head out at 10:30 am.  Hope to see you there.     Steve

  • There were 9 riders that turned out on this very summer like spring day.  It was getting warm quickly as we gathered in preparation for the ride to Clayton.  Those joining me included Dan, Steve G., Gary, Bill, Pat, Doug, Neil, and Terry.  We headed north on Hwy 130 and meandered through Oconee County to Hwy 28 to enjoy the curves on our way to Georgia.  The ride into Clayton took us on one of our favorites - Warwoman Road.  It's always a lot of fun to ride the many twisties on this road.  We saw a lot of other motorcyclists, mostly on "crotch rockets," that were obviously there for some knee scraping runs on the incredible road.  We arrived and had no problem getting seated on the covered porch at Rumor Hazit.  It was a pleasant day for dining outside.  We were served our drink orders in good time and it was a nearly unanimous choice to try their signature sandwich, the Grouper Reuben.  The food is very tasty, but there seem to be fewer people there than we've seen over the years.  After the great lunch, we saddled up for the ride home.  I had planned to take a loop to Hwy 76 via Seed Tick Rd, but I punched the wrong road into my GPS.  Instead, we ended up staring at two gravel roads, which meant we all got to practice our slow speed maneuver turn around on the narrow country road.  Only Neil, with his Honda trike said "what's the problem?"  Oh well, like Dan says it comes with the territory.  We managed to make it home without precipitation.  However, Paulette says that just as I crested the hill to my house, there was a very loud clap of thunder.  Glad we stayed dry.  Overall, it was another great day on two wheels.     Steve

Friday 05/04/18 Ride

Fellow Riders,

  • Both Steve and I are gone for the weekend on a M/C road trip and are unavailable to plan or lead a Friday Ride.  Therefore those that wish to ride regardless should plan to meet at the Key Mart parking area and select a destination and ride leader at that time.  Enjoy and ride safe.     Dan
