Friday 05/11/18 Ride

Fellow Riders,

  • It seems like we went from a spring that couldn't really get going, to a spring that thinks it's summer already.  That means near 90 degree highs and the accompanying threat of an afternoon shower.  I think we can make a lunch ride to Rumor Hazit in Clayton and not get wet.  Like the weather forecasters, I've got a 50% chance of being right.  If you're up to accepting the slight risk, we can meet at Key Mart and head out at 10:30 am.  Hope to see you there.     Steve

  • There were 9 riders that turned out on this very summer like spring day.  It was getting warm quickly as we gathered in preparation for the ride to Clayton.  Those joining me included Dan, Steve G., Gary, Bill, Pat, Doug, Neil, and Terry.  We headed north on Hwy 130 and meandered through Oconee County to Hwy 28 to enjoy the curves on our way to Georgia.  The ride into Clayton took us on one of our favorites - Warwoman Road.  It's always a lot of fun to ride the many twisties on this road.  We saw a lot of other motorcyclists, mostly on "crotch rockets," that were obviously there for some knee scraping runs on the incredible road.  We arrived and had no problem getting seated on the covered porch at Rumor Hazit.  It was a pleasant day for dining outside.  We were served our drink orders in good time and it was a nearly unanimous choice to try their signature sandwich, the Grouper Reuben.  The food is very tasty, but there seem to be fewer people there than we've seen over the years.  After the great lunch, we saddled up for the ride home.  I had planned to take a loop to Hwy 76 via Seed Tick Rd, but I punched the wrong road into my GPS.  Instead, we ended up staring at two gravel roads, which meant we all got to practice our slow speed maneuver turn around on the narrow country road.  Only Neil, with his Honda trike said "what's the problem?"  Oh well, like Dan says it comes with the territory.  We managed to make it home without precipitation.  However, Paulette says that just as I crested the hill to my house, there was a very loud clap of thunder.  Glad we stayed dry.  Overall, it was another great day on two wheels.     Steve
