Friday 5/31/13 Ride

Fellow Riders,
  • Since Sue and I have to be on the road late Friday afternoon, if I want to ride I have to do a breakfast ride.  So my plan is to ride around a bit and get to the Pendleton Bakery Café in time for breakfast (before 10AM) and then ride around a little bit more on the way home.  If you want to go early and have some breakfast, let’s plan to leave the Key Mart parking area about 8:30 AM.  Hope to see you then.   Dan

  • A very nice ride today to the fine town of Pendleton.  Riding with Dan today were Larry, Leslie, me, Russ, Ed and Bob.  When we arrived at our destination, we were joined by Dave for his first ride with the group. We were seated in our usual spot at The Village Baker and Cafe - a room separated from the main dining room - and were served well.  I'm sure we are not seated separately because we are a bunch of grizzled bikers in leather, but I'm never quite sure.  Nevertheless, we enjoyed the fine breakfast menu.  Ed treated us to a sample from the bakery to whet our appetites.  I'm not accustomed to an appetizer for breakfast, but it was very good.  The very non-direct route back to Seneca reminds us of just how rural Oconee County can be.  Overall, another great day on two wheels.     Steve

Nice to see the bakery is well defended against northern aggressors

Friday 5/24/13 Ride

Fellow Riders,

  • I haven’t ridden in so long I think a chipmunk has taken up residence in my tailpipe.  So this Friday I think I’ll scoot on up to Sylva, NC and have some lunch at the City Lights Café.  If you want to join me let’s plan to leave the Key Mart parking area about 10:30 AM.  I’m planning to do a small section of the Blue Ridge Parkway on the way up so if you’re going you should dress accordingly (it can get cool).  I hope to see ya’ll Friday.  Dan

  • What a great ride today.  The drive up to the parkway was fantastic.  Once we got on the parkway, it was clear not many took Dan's advice seriously enough - it was VERY cool.  A stop at the highest point on the parkway, elevation 6,053 feet, provided a spectacular view on a clear day, and provided an opportunity to put on some cold weather gear.  The ride down to Sylva saw the temps rise quickly.  After a couple extra turns (away from Sylva), we arrived at The City Lights Cafe.  It is a great place for lunch, and with the sun shining brightly, sitting outside was very nice.  The food was excellent and the cook must have had to hit the local streams to find more tuna.  For the eight riders that went - Dan, Larry, Len, Mark, Rob, Russ, me, and Bob - it was another great day on two wheels.   Steve

Friday 5/17/13 Ride

Fellow Riders,

  • Friday weather looks like it will be OK for riding so plan to meet at the Key Mart parking area about 10:30 AM and pick a destination and ride leader at that time.  I am still caught up in my grandfatherly duties so I will not be able to join you until next week.  Ride safe.   Dan

  • This week we were visiting LA for a mini-family reunion.  We had a blast, although it was on four wheels rather than two.  Looking forward to next week and getting out with the group on the bike.  Steve

Friday 5/10/13 Ride

Fellow Riders,

  • Friday looks like it might be a good day to go riding.  Dan will not be available to plan a ride this Friday so if you feel like riding, plan to meet at the Key Mart parking area and choose a destination and ride leader at that time.     Ride Safe!     Dan

  • Unfortunately, I've missed another week, and will miss one more before i get to join in the Friday fun on two wheels.  Someone sent me the following group photo - is this really who went on the ride today?  Guess you were just having fun on two wheels.  See you in a couple weeks.  Steve (gotta love it when Dan writes in third person)

Is that Bruce back there?

Friday 5/03/13 Ride

Fellow Riders,
  • Looks like we might get a ride in this Friday so let’s head on up to Highlands, NC and have a sandwich or something at Sweetreats Deli. If you want to go we’ll plan to leave about 10:30 AM from the Key Mart parking area. Hope you can join us.  Dan

  • Too bad for me that I can't make the first trip into the mountains. The weather looks like it will be dry, but weather.com doesn't show much sun in the forecast.  It should be a great day on two wheels.   Steve
