Friday 7/25/14 Ride

Fellow Riders,

  • Friday morning weather looks to be OK so I planning to head on up to Brevard, NC for some breakfast at the Sunshine CafĂ© (we been there before).  The ride there will take about two hours since I will be going by way of Meese Mill and East Fork, but don’t worry, they serve breakfast all day.  Plan to be back by about 1 PM.  If you would like to join me let’s plan to leave the Key Mart parking area about 8:30 AM.  Hope to see you there.   Dan

  • What another fabulous day for riding in the mountains.  The temperature was perfect, low 70's, as ten of us made our way up to Brevard.  Dan was true to his word, taking nearly two hours for a 47 mile ride.  The riders behind Dan included Lesley, Len, Rob, me, Russ, Jim (Wing), Kevin (a rare summer sighting, but still on one of his Italian rides), Bob, and Ed.  Highway 178 gave us some good practice on twisties and switchbacks as we worked our way up the mountain.  The Sunrise Cafe, once again, offered a very tasty breakfast.  None of us were sure what language was being used to call out our order numbers, but Rob may be applying for a translator job there because he seemed to understand what the guy was saying.  The service and food were great.  The ride back took us along US64 for some more twisty highway, and then we headed back toward Keowee Key.  It was another great day on two wheels.   Steve
What's wrong with this picture?
Yes, the menu on the back wall is as small as it looks.

Friday 7/18/14 Ride

Fellow Riders,

  • I will not be available to ride this Friday, however, breakfast seems to be a popular option to beat the heat during these hot summer month so those wishing to ride should plan to meet at the Key Mart parking area and chose a destination and ride leader at that time.  Ride safe.   Dan
Maybe Isabella will lead us to breakfast!!

  • Well, I let Mother Nature win today.  I did not feel like taking on the 50% chance of rain throughout the area.  They've been missing their forecast a lot lately, but of course, they seem to get it right on Friday.  Not a great day on two wheels today.   Steve

Friday 7/11/14 Ride

Fellow Riders,

  • Back by popular demand, I think we should try another breakfast ride.  It’s cooler in the morning and afternoon weather looks sketchy.  This Friday I think we should try the Zookeeper Bistro in Cashiers, NC for some breakfast.  It’s said to be good.  I’ll head straight up there for some breakfast, then do a little poking about in the hills on the way back.  Should be back by noon.  If you would like to join me, let’s plan to leave the Key Mart parking area about 8:30 AM this Friday morning.  Hope you can make it.   Dan

The Zookeeper Bistro - Cashiers, NC

  • The early morning breakfast temptation brought out a dozen riders.  Only eleven made the trip to breakfast as Bill was only there to hand out copies of the latest U. S. Rider News.  The remaining riders included Dan, Lesley, Len, Bob, Rob, Russ, Jim (Wing), me, Joe, Bob, and Ed.  Dan took us on the direct route - 130 to Wigington to 107.  The temps were pleasantly cool as we made our way up to Cashiers.  Zookeepers had been alerted by Sue that 11 bikers were on their way and they had a section set up for us.  Joe was determined to help the server who asked him if he was looking for a summer job, and then took the menus away from him.  The food was great, and at least one rider was chose the very sweet looking waffle with strawberries and lots of whipped cream.  Some of the riders departed for home right after breakfast and Dan led the rest of us around Thorpe Reservoir on some very scenic and curvy roads.  We arrived home just after noon.  It was another great day on two wheels.   Steve

Friday 7/4/14 Ride

Fellow Riders,

  • Friday is shaping up to be a great day for a ride, except it is a holiday, 4th of July, so a lot of little towns are having parades, fairs and lots of people.  I did find a place serving breakfast this Friday, up near Lake Toxaway called Amore, so breakfast at Amore is my plan.  We can get out early to beat the heat, should take about 35 minutes to breakfast, then take a roundabout way home for those who still want to ride some.  Should be back well before noon and the major holiday traffic.  If you would like to join me, let’s plan to leave the Key Mart parking area about 8:30 AM.  Hope to see you there.  If not, have a nice 4th and ride safe.  Dan

Amore - Lake Toxaway
  • The weather was perfect for this early morning breakfast ride on the 4th of July.  Dan led seven other riders on a direct route to Amore's on US64.  The other riders included Gadget, Lesley, Rob, Len, me, Russ, and Bob.  A big thank-you to the Bountyland Tanker truck driver who pulled to the side and let us sail by on route 130.  He was doing a great job, but when we saw the blinkers, we knew it was going to get slow real soon.  We continued on and enjoyed a great breakfast.  The menu is simple - eggs, sausage or bacon, home fries, grits, biscuits and gravy, fruit, and coffee.  You just needed to tell the server what you don't want, and that's what you get.  With tax, all meals were $8 even.  Dan took us on some great back roads as we made our way back down the mountain.  We passed a lot of other bikers who had the same idea - enjoy the weather and the fantastic mountain roads on this great American Holiday.  It was another great day on two wheels.   Steve
