Friday 7/4/14 Ride

Fellow Riders,

  • Friday is shaping up to be a great day for a ride, except it is a holiday, 4th of July, so a lot of little towns are having parades, fairs and lots of people.  I did find a place serving breakfast this Friday, up near Lake Toxaway called Amore, so breakfast at Amore is my plan.  We can get out early to beat the heat, should take about 35 minutes to breakfast, then take a roundabout way home for those who still want to ride some.  Should be back well before noon and the major holiday traffic.  If you would like to join me, let’s plan to leave the Key Mart parking area about 8:30 AM.  Hope to see you there.  If not, have a nice 4th and ride safe.  Dan

Amore - Lake Toxaway
  • The weather was perfect for this early morning breakfast ride on the 4th of July.  Dan led seven other riders on a direct route to Amore's on US64.  The other riders included Gadget, Lesley, Rob, Len, me, Russ, and Bob.  A big thank-you to the Bountyland Tanker truck driver who pulled to the side and let us sail by on route 130.  He was doing a great job, but when we saw the blinkers, we knew it was going to get slow real soon.  We continued on and enjoyed a great breakfast.  The menu is simple - eggs, sausage or bacon, home fries, grits, biscuits and gravy, fruit, and coffee.  You just needed to tell the server what you don't want, and that's what you get.  With tax, all meals were $8 even.  Dan took us on some great back roads as we made our way back down the mountain.  We passed a lot of other bikers who had the same idea - enjoy the weather and the fantastic mountain roads on this great American Holiday.  It was another great day on two wheels.   Steve
