Friday 05/27/16 Ride

Fellow Riders,

  • Friday’s forecast is calling for a slight chance of rain but maybe we will get lucky so I am going to cross my fingers and plan a ride up to the Dutch Cupboard in Etowah, NC.  If you would like to join me let’s plan to leave the Key Mart parking area about 10:30 AM.  Hope we don’t get wet.     Dan
The Dutch Cupboard

  • Six riders, including Dan, came to Key Mart this morning, believing a "slight" chance of rain meant it is not likely to rain.  The other hopeful riders included David D., me, Steve G., Gadget, and Len.  We started out on Hwy 183, took a jaunt through Pickens County, and back through Pickens as we continued to head north and east. As we made our way north, and the clouds began to thicken and darken, we were beginning to question the somewhat optimistic forecast. Dan's route took us on some very gently sweeping curves around Flat Rock as we continued toward Etowah.  It began to appear that the obvious rain clouds were beginning to track us down, and sure enough, a few miles before The Dutch Cupboard, the rains came.  We were all sufficiently wet by the time we got to our destination.  The restaurant was a typical meat and three and we had a good server to get us some hot coffee and our meals.  A couple riders did try some of their home made pies and weren't disappointed.  The ride home was on some familiar roads and we filled up at Dunham's  to make sure we're ready for the next great day on two wheels.   Steve

  • As a bonus, here is a video of Bob returning from getting his bike washed last Saturday.  Enjoy and tell your friends.  Bob said his kids now think he's cool because he's on You Tube.  Maybe he'll go viral.   It's great to have kids that humor their father.  Orange Gloves Bob and His Bike Wash .

Friday 05/20/16 Ride

Fellow Riders,

  • Friday’s forecast is looking kind of gloomy so I’m not planning a ride.  Just as well cause I don’t plan to be here anyway.  Those wishing to ride should meet at the Key Mart parking area and select a destination and ride leader at that time.  Ride safe and try to stay dry.     Dan
We survived last Friday, and now this........  Another frightening forecast!!!

The rain did come........
  • There's always hope for next week......

Friday 05/13/16 Ride

Fellow Riders,

  • Looks like most of the overnight rain chances will be gone by ride time Friday so I thought I would make my way up to Sylva, NC for some lunch at the City Lights CafĂ©.  If you would like to join me let’s plan to meet at the Key Mart parking area about 10:30 AM and ride out from there.  Hope to see you then.    Dan

Friday 05/06/16 Ride

Fellow Riders,

  • Friday should be a fine day for a ride.  Unfortunately for me I seemed to have succumbed to some type of viral infection which is hampering my enjoyment of just about anything, even planning a motorcycle ride.  Those still fit enough to ride should meet at the Key Mart parking area about 10:30 AM and select a destination and ride leader at that time.  Stay safe.    Dan
I can't ride my #@** motorcycle........
Try this prescription..

  • There were seven riders that came to the Key Mart parking lot for our "pot luck" ride this morning.  Today's riders included Bob (orange gloves and all), Len, Lesley, Rob, Russ, me, and Jim (wing).  Bob suggested Chattooga Belle Farm, now that they've opened for the season.  We all agreed and suggested Bob lead the way.  He did his best to emulate Dan by taking as many Oconee County back roads as he could to get there.  We circled Cherokee Lake and made our way up to Mountain Rest, then over to Long Creek and Chattooga Belle.  Once we got there, moved some tables around, and settled in on the windy deck, Bob said he was glad we didn't get lost.  I told him we all had confidence, in Len, that we wouldn't get lost.  They have a great menu and the girls doing the serving were most helpful and quick in getting our lunch.  We saw where the newly opened distillery is located and the owner offered us a tour, but we said we would do that another time.  It was cool enough we were afraid we would be tempted to try numerous samples to warm up a little.    We made our way back via Hwy 76 and 123.  Although it was without Dan, it was still another great day on two wheels.     Steve
This has to be one of the best views in all of South Carolina.
  • ps, I think I saw Dan following us at a distance, so I snapped this photo.  I think Sue made him wear protective gear due to the infection and to keep from rubbing his eyes.
