Thursday 04/11/19 Ride

Fellow Riders,
  • With Thursday's weather looking a whole lot better than Friday, I think I'll take a ride to The Dutch Plate in Campobello, SC.  There should be enough sun to make it a fun ride.  If you're interested, let's plan on leaving the Key Mart parking area at 10:30 am, THURSDAY.  Based on the rain forecast for Friday, I think we should plan for another breakfast gathering at Sisters at 9:30 am.  Let Dan or I know if you plan on going on Friday. Hope to see you at one, or both events this week.    Steve

  • Thursday ride - Three other riders joined me for a ride to The Dutch Plate to have lunch.  Joining me were Gary, Steve G., and Neil.  It's a little over 60 miles to Campbello, so I kept the side roads to a minimum, but still made it an interesting ride.    We were startled on one country road by a large wild turkey doing a little trot next to some cows in a field.  It decided to fly across in front of us and we were able to see what a large bird it was.  With a small group, we didn't make a call ahead to the restaurant, which was not a problem.  We seated ourselves and were served drinks fairly quickly.  We placed our orders, a couple of lunch specials, and a couple of breakfasts, and they came out in good time as well.  The Dutch Plate food is good, not great, and probably best when you order from the breakfast section. Overall, it's not a bad place to go and it is a ride that gives you some nice two lane highways with sweeper curves.  The ride back started on the most scenic stretch of Hwy 11, and the mountains looked great as we headed home.  We did log a few more miles on the route home and rolled off Hwy 11 in Cleveland to ride some familiar county roads.  The skies were much sunnier and the temperatures were considerably warmer by the time we reached home.  It was another great day on two wheels.   Steve
  • Friday breakfast - The "I'd rather be riding my motorcycle" riders met at Sisters for some breakfast.  Those joining Dan and I were Bill, Pat, Gary, Steve G., Chuck, Neil, Terry, and Russ.  They were ready for us thanks to Dan's call ahead.  The server was quick to get our orders and they brought them in good time.  Omelettes seemed to be quite popular.  Another server helped deliver the food and let us know she was only going to be nice once, so we better pay attention and make sure we got the right order.  It's hard to believe we had yet another rainy, or at least threatening rainy day.  Maybe next week we'll have a dry day.  After all, it will be Good Friday.    Steve
