Thursday 04/26/19 Ride

Fellow Riders,

  • Based on the current forecast for Friday, the relentless rainy pattern continues.  I'm planning to take a Thursday ride to Hendersonville, NC, for some lunch at Mean Mr. Mustard.  If that works for you, we'll plan to leave the Key Mart parking area at 10:30 am.  We can still plan a breakfast at Sisters on Friday for those that are interested.  If you think you'll make breakfast Friday, let me know.   Steve
  • There were lots of clouds and no sunshine when seven riders decided to take advantage of a forecasted dry Thursday to ride north to Hendersonville, NC.  The riders joining me included David D., Len, Neil, Doug, Harve (first time rider - welcome Harve), and Steve G. With the incredible amount of rain last Friday, I was leery to try some of the back roads to get to lunch.  I checked the SC and NC DOT websites and there did not appear to be any closures in our way.  We could clearly see evidence in several places of the wash out rain from a week ago.  Fortunately, there was little debris on the roads to worry about.  In case we didn't know just how important Mother Nature is, She let go of some large drops of rain when we were about 15 minutes from our destination.  We got the message!  When we arrived, they knew we were coming, thanks to Paulette, and seated us right away.  It was cloudy and cool enough we didn't venture to the outside tables.  The service was quick and friendly and the food was quite good as usual.  The menu choices made were about 50/50 for breakfast and lunch.  Mother Nature gave us another reminder of Her importance by letting the sun shine while were inside, bringing back the clouds as we started home.  We took the more mountainous route back, driving through Dupont State Forest, where the number of cars in the parking lots indicated a lot of hikers were checking out the waterfalls.  When we had another 15 minutes to our final stop for gas at the rebuilt station at Keowee Lake Shop, Mother Nature let loose another two minutes of big rain drops.  We get the message - be thankful for the rain.  We just wish it wasn't so often on Friday. 💧🙏  Overall, it was another great day on two wheels.  It was just Thursday and not Friday.    Steve

You can see where "threaded the needle" of the no rain forecast.
