Friday 3/29/13 Ride

Fellow Riders,

  • Dan will not be available to ride this weekend.  Those still wishing to ride should meet at the Key Mart parking area about 10:30 AM and pick a destination at that time.  Ride safe and have a Happy Easter.         Dan

  • Today there were six riders ready to go at the Key Mart parking area - Bob, Leslie, Larry, Russ, Mel, and me.  It was a little cool, but the sun was shining.  After some discussion of possible destinations, Bob suggested the WC, located between Toccoa and Clarkesville in Georgia.  The skies began to turn grey as we headed into Georgia.  As it turned out, this establishment was no longer in business, and I believe it was the "MC" and not the "WC" Kountry Kitchen (see pic below).  No matter.  Bob led us into Clarkesville for lunch at The Attic.  This turned out to be a great choice.  When the server was asked what was recommended, she said their Philly Steak.  Bob proceeded to order one, but redesigned the sandwich into a Philly Steak Hoagie. The food was great, especially the roasted red pepper soup.  After lunch, Mel took the more direct route back and Bob led the rest of us on a very interesting ride around Lake Burton, but we didn't see Julia Roberts.  Although the skies were totally grey by now, it was another great day on two wheels.    Steve  (I always enjoy Dan writing in third person style)

It looked like it had such promise....  Too, bad it was closed.........

Friday 3/22/13 Ride

Fellow Riders,
  • It seems we just can’t get past the cold Fridays around here! No rain though, so I’m riding. Think I’ll head for the Grits & Groceries at Saylors Crossroads just south of Belton. If you’re wanting to take the time to do that let’s plan to leave the Key Mart parking area about 10:30 AM. Hope to see ya’ll there.    Dan

  • I wasn't able to make the ride on Friday, but I did hear it was a cold ride.  Anyone is welcome to make comments by clicking the comment button below and share something about the ride and who participated.  I'm hoping there will be a good ride on Good Friday.    Steve

Friday 3/15/13 Ride

Fellow Riders,
  • I have been informed that I need to be home no later than 3 PM for an Activity Group function, so with that in mind I think I can get to the Dutch Plate in Campobello and back in time to avoid serious consequences.  If you want to join me let’s plan to leave the Key Mart parking area about 10:30 AM.  Hope you can make it.        Dan

Remember Dan,
 "Beware the Ides of March"

  • A sunny and breezy ride to Spartanburg county today.  The group of 10.5 riders included Dan, Leslie, Rob, Len, Steve (2)(me), Russ, Mel, Steve (1), Denny, and Bob.  The .5 rider was Pete, who joined us at the Dutch Plate and rode with us a few miles after lunch before heading back toward Greenville.  Fortunately, there was no accident this year in downtown Campobello, but we did make the customary u-turn to get to the restaurant since we drove passed it again.  Maybe next year we'll skip the u-turn and pull right in.  The Dutch Plate has quite a menu and offers meat loaf everyday as a special. The breakfast side of the menu was quite popular today.  The girls serving us did a great job and the food was very tasty.  By the way, it would appear Dan made the deadline, so he'll presumably live to lead another day.  Another great day on two wheels.      Steve

Friday 3/08/13 Ride

Fellow Riders,
  • This coming Friday the weather forecast is looking pretty good so I’m hoping we can scoot on down to one of our favorite winter lunch destinations, The Gray House in Starr, SC.  If you are wanting to join us let’s plan to leave the Key Mart parking area about 10:30 AM.  Hope you can make it.         Dan

  • It was a cool start for the large group that rode to The Gray House in Starr.  There were 13 riders that included Dan, Leslie, Steve (1), me (Steve 2), Russ, Kevin, Denny, Charley, Paul, Rob, Mel, Bob, and Ed.  We took the typical non-direct route to Starr by going through Pendleton.  At least we were able to rescue Paul, who was just sitting in the middle of the road, near Patrick Square.  The temperature was around 50, by the time we arrived.  We had our own room in which to eat.  The food and service was very good, but it did take a while to get the checks.  The nice thing was how well the pastel napkins complemented our leather chaps, Harley caps, and do-rags.  Another great day on two wheels.        Steve
